Nokia vs Apple
It's Nokia vs Apple again in 2010! This is one batttle of mobilephone giants that will be watched out in 2010 and in the years to come. The Finnish giant Nokia requested an investigation against Apple with U.S. regulator, the International Trade Commission. Nokia posted in it's website the following press release:

Nokia requests ITC investigation into Apple patent infringement
December 29, 2009

Espoo, Finland - Nokia announced it has today filed a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) alleging that Apple infringes Nokia patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers.

The seven Nokia patents in this complaint relate to Nokia's pioneering innovations that are now being used by Apple to create key features in its products in the area of user interface, as well as camera, antenna and power management technologies. These patented technologies are important to Nokia's success as they allow better user experience, lower manufacturing costs, smaller size and longer battery life for Nokia products.

Blackberry Storm In The Philippines

Posted by Novz in

Research in Motion (RIM), the company behind Blackberry, announced the availability of their latest phone in the Philippines.

Both Smart and Globe had bought pages in national dailies, announcing the arrival of Blackberry Storm. I know my boss ordered one. I got a glimpse of the unit the other week. I already had an idea of the Blackberry Storm features. But looking at the price of the phone, I am not sure if it is something that is value-for-money.

Maybe if you have extra cash or have some company freebies that will allow you to get the latest touch-screen phone from RIM. But for the ordinary working folks like me, give us something cheaper.

Moving To A Domain Blog

Posted by Novz in

In a few weeks, this blog will move to a self-hosted blog in Wordpress. Three years of blogging still has me bending and crouching for the technical aspects of migrating to a new platform.

All I know is to write, and compute. But not in the language of computer experts. So I had my sports blog, which features right now the UEFA Champions' League. I had my take on the Inter vs Manchester United match. I hate to think that these two clash this early. My heart goes out to Mourinho as I believe that he is a great Manager. But I also believe that Man U is the better team.

Of course there is the Chelsea vs Juventus Match. Chelsea will win, no matter what.

Now back to the domain thing, which is found in the title of this post. I am currently in the lookout of a better webhost, a nice resting place for my two other unhosted domains, and a transfer of my travel blog. I hate to think of the frequent downtimes I encountered and the zero earnings for four consecutive days.

My other preferred domain name is still available and maybe I have to obtain from the freebie of the hosting package.

2008 Blogging Experiences

Posted by Novz in

In 2008, here are my blogging experiences:

  1. Two of my blogs got penalized by Google. A PR4 and a PR3 were both taken away.
  2. I bought a domain and a hosting in February.
  3. Focused my blogging efforts in the domain
  4. Bought another domain and another hosting package mid-year
  5. Cashed in my $500 earnings from paid posts.
  6. Decided to try adsense as a source of blogging income
  7. Created another blogspot for technology
  8. Google giveth, and google taketh away. My domain got a PR3 in 75 days, but was reduced to PR1 in the succeeding update. Now it has a PR2.
  9. Traffic improved because of some SEO techiques
  10. Adsense earnings improved. Will cash out my first $100 soon.

I admit that this tech blog had not taken flight. In 2009, it will. Just like my other blogs. Now I got:
  1. Personal blogs (2)
  2. Travel and SEO blog (1)
  3. Sports Blog (1)
  4. Tech blog (this one)
  5. Flowers and weddings blog (1)
  6. Literary blog (1)

I have to trim down my number of blogs. I still owned two other domain names that are not yet hosted. I am still on the lookout for a better webhost. Mine sucks. And I hate to think that my two sites are all down on the first days of the New Year! Yay!

Lose Weight While Blogging

Posted by Novz in ,

How do you lose weight while blogging? We all know that when you blog, you just sit down and face the computer screen for hours. It is such a sedentary activity that you don't burn much fat. Accumulating those fats can make you, well, fat.

Ok, so I'm a little obese. You know, those silly ratios that says you have a disproportionate weight to height ratio. At 5'7'', I should weigh only 150-170. What?!!! I got to shed out 25% of my current weight.

With my blogging activities, plus work that requires me to sit down in my cubicle 9-10 hours a day, and no time to have some exercise, losing weight is such a gargantuan task.

So, how do you lose weight while blogging? Simply, don't eat. If you tell me it's risky, well, it is indeed risky. The truth is, we have to balance our activities, whether it be blogging, working, eating or exercising.

Of Blogging Experiments There Is No End

Posted by Novz in

Some open a blog, then after a few months and a few posts, leave it a waste in the blogosphere. Then they get hooked again, and after the fancy has died down, the blog is once again buried in the pits.

By why can't we value our blogs and be serious with what we have started? The reasons are varied and these are some of those:

1. Blogging is free. It is easy to open a blog. Go to blogger.com (or wordpress.com) and in a few minutes, you now have a space in the internet world. If you want to leave that blog to die, there is no risk for you.

Try buying your own domain and webhosting space. That is the beginning of serious blogging.

2. Lack of goals. You blog because everyone else does it. And you just post whatever you want disregarding quality. The goal is just to write and nothing else.

3. Attitude. So, you aim to rant. Sooner or later, you'd get bored at your own ramblings and rantings. And when there is nothing left to rant, you leave your free blog.

But what about those blogged for years now? What made them stick? Of course, it is just the reverse of the things I mentioned above. And they are not afraid to experiment on many new things. Of blogging experiments, there is no end. Don't let your blog die away. Keep the blogging passion burning!
